If you are the passer
Good Works well with the right setup.
- Whizzer and push them flat
Wrap your arm over their underhook (a whizzer) and push your hip into them. They fall back to normal butterfly guard.
Leads to butterfly guard › - Back step pass
Step over their hook and turn your back to them as you go around. You land in side control for 3 points.
Leads to side control › - Pull your arm out and posture
Pull your arm free and sit up straight. You stop fighting for that arm and start again.
Leads to butterfly guard › - Base wide, hips back
Spread your knees wide and keep your hips back. The sweep needs your weight forward, so do not give it to them.
You stay in this position.
Mistake Avoid this: it usually makes things worse.
- Drive forward into them
Driving your weight into their underhook helps their butterfly sweep. They lift you and roll you over.
Usually goes wrong. Choose a better option above.
If you are the guard player
Best The choice that works most often here.
- Butterfly sweep
Hold their arm on one side and keep the underhook on the other. Fall toward the arm you hold, lift with your hook, and land in mount. The underhook is what makes this sweep work.
Leads to mount ›
Good Works well with the right setup.
- Take the back off the underhook
Use the underhook to climb behind their shoulder and lock a seatbelt grip (one arm over the shoulder, one under). Back control is worth 4 points.
Leads to back control › - Wrestle up to a single leg
Use the underhook to come up to your knees, then grab a leg. You finish on top in half guard.
Leads to half guard, smashed › - Keep the underhook
Hold the underhook and do not rush. It is a strong grip, so wait for the right moment.
You stay in this position.
Risky Can work, but often goes wrong.
- Guillotine
If they drop their head, the guillotine choke is there. If not, you lose your underhook for nothing.
Ends the match if it works: a submission.
