Blue belt curriculum

The blue belt section of the Rolla Path is about escapes. You have learned to survive. Now you learn to get out.

Each escape takes you back to guard, to your knees or to your feet. Study the white belt curriculum first, because every escape starts from survival.

1. Back escapes

The back is the worst place to be, so this escape comes first.

  • Win the hand fight before you move. Hand Fighting ›
  • Drop your shoulders to the mat on the side of their under-arm (the arm under your armpit). Back Escape ›
  • Clear the top hook, then slide your hips over their bottom leg. Hooks ›
  • Turn into them and come up on top. Back Control ›
  • Escape the body triangle and double underhooks.

3. Side control escapes

4. Knee on belly escapes

Knee on belly scores 2 and leads to mount, so you get out before they move on.

5. Escaping armbars and triangles
